Alternative brake pedal switch?

Anyone know a good replacement for an old K100 brake pedal switch?

For a quick DIY solution it would be nice to know if the switch is of opening or closing type? The button goes "up" when the pedal is depressed.

Brake switch is normally closed.  The brake pedal maintains pressure on the switch when at rest, opening the circuit. When you press the brake, pressure is relieved and the switch closes.

There are two different types of switches.  One is a cylindrical plunger type and the other is a square microswitch.  What type do you have?

Another thing to be considered is ability of the switch to withstand the rain that it would be exposed to.

A local electronic supply store should be able to supply something that you could adapt. Take the old one with you for comparison. And waterproof it.

Thank you all for the tips.

I happen to have a pile of mostly Chinese scooter parts. Tried to scavenge from there but couldn't find any suitable switch. Last time i had the same need with front brake switch i used a scooter microswitch as a stopgap solution until i found a new original switch.

My bike's switch is of plunger type. At work I did find a microswitch from an old electronics spare part supply with a ready plunger assembly with both NC and NO contacts. The plunger has a smaller diameter thread than my bike so i could easily adapt it to fit in place. I did some crude weatherproofing with shrink tube and electric tape. It's not going to be pretty but i'm sure it will work  :laughing1:

Can you really call it a waste of time if it keeps me on 2 wheels instead of four while i find a correct one?  :laughing1:
