Toured around O'ahu with my wife for the day. It was a typical day in Hawaii: 82F and mostly sunny with the occasional cloud. Rented a F800GS for the day ($150 from Big Kahuna rentals in Waikiki). The bike was a lot of fun to ride. Tons of torque and great handling. Never took it over 110 mph as there are few chances to take advantage of speed. Circled the island, starting in Waikiki, heading to the south shore and around the windward side. It's almost impossible to get lost on O'ahu as there are so few roads. The views are amazing, with either an ocean view or a mountain view, or both. The smells are incredible. Fruits, flowers, tree's, the ocean. The world championships of Surfing just happened to be going on on the north shore at the Banzai Pipeline so we took in some amazing surfing. Lunch from a shrimp truck of course. Shaved ice after that - totally refreshing. On the way back to Waikiki, we had some time still so we headed up the lesser traveled west side of the island. After going through a ton of civilization, and past the local shanty-town (didn't see that in the tourist brochure) we found ourselves a deserted beach to swim at - that was a treat. Highly recommend heading there - about as far north as one can go along the west side of the island. An amazing day. Not sure why any of us live in the other 49 states. My wife is ready to sell our house here in the mountains of Colorado and move.
