94 K1100 RS fuel leak at sending unit
« on: January 01, 2020, 11:42:47 AM »
Hi , I just noticed a puddle of fuel under my 94 K1100 RS . It's been parked for 2 months and just seems to have sprung a leak under the fuel tank at the electrical connection at the left rear underside of the tank. Does this ring any bells at all?
Thanks, Ian

Welcome!

+1 on pictures.  Especially of the bottom sides of the tank.  Look for blistered paint on the lower edges where the bottom is welded to the top of the tank.  This is a common spot for corrosion to make pinholes in the aluminum.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like the leak is at the wire coming out of the gauge according to the fiches Johnny pointed me toward. More investigating is needed, we still have 4 months of winter so no urgency.

Drain the tank and get it off the bike.  The fairing is designed so that all you need do is disconnect the fuel lines and remove the seat and the left side knee pad to get the tank off.

While it's off, you can put a couple small cable ties on the clips that hold the tank down to make them easier to handle.
