Anyone replace engine output shaft? (k100)
« on: March 15, 2019, 10:04:58 AM »
My K100 LT has eaten through two otherwise perfectly good clutches leaving me stranded both time. Weird too, because I wasn't even taking off. Both times, I was literally just cruising along at 60/70mph. Then power to the wheels just kinda gives out and this really terrible whine and grind and wail comes from under me. Pull in clutch and it makes he sound a bit less awful but still kinda there.

Is this even where I want to start? I'm about to start my spring break this coming week and just throw in the clutch to get me by again then hope for the best otherwise and hope I'm not in a hurry the next time it happens...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

What is the damage?  Is it to the splines?  Something else?

What do the splines on the output shaft look like?  Can you post some photos showing the tops of the splines?

Isn't your question about replacement of a transmission input shaft rather than an engine output shaft? The transmission input shaft is indicated by the red arrow in the first attached photo. The engine output shaft is the subject of the second photo.

Transmission input shaft.

Engine output shaft.
