Pressure Plate - Housing Cover
« on: February 06, 2019, 06:45:04 PM »
I've finally removed the clutch assembly and replaced the leaking rear main seal.

I need some opinions on the condition of the pressure plate and housing cover.  I purchased a clutch kit from a forum member which included the diaphragm spring, pressure plate and clutch plate but don't think I need to replace the clutch.  The clutch plate is just over 5mm while the new is about 5.5 and the pressure plate and housing cover have what I think is normal 75k mile wear.

So full disclosure:  This is new territory for me, but I have the bits in hand so I thought I'd reply.

My Clymers uses the same terminology, but I suspect all you wish is feedback on the appearance of your pressure plate pictured in the image you posted right?

So what's a clutch plate, sir?  As, in Clymers we gots one of everything but that... :johnny :boxing: Can't you just see Laitch loving this....

So, continuing..As the wear limit for the FRICTION plate is 4.5mm. I think mine measured 5 and the rivets were disturbingly close to the pressure plate, so in the bin that bad boy went.

Now my pressure plate off a bike with 108K  has similar signs of heat as yours and measures hair over 7mm thick.  I'll attach images below.  Say so and I can box these and shipm for you to compare??  Not doing me any good not selling and sitting on my shelf.  Cheers.  For my knowledge limited to VW type one and 911s, that pressure plate looks like it has fairly normal signs of friction plate and heat distortion.  And if I had a guy willing to ship a better one, Id go for it!!  Cheers!

Thanks Clayton but I'm inclined to clean the pressure plate and housing cover and use a new clutch plate (BMW's nomenclature) although it is well within specs.  The slight discoloration looks normal to me based on my experience with cars, no heavy discoloration or cracks.
