Ok electrical boffins, as an electrician and reasonably ok on auto electrics I have an issue with the Y/Br wire from the FI relay going to the Ignition control unit. If I short this wire to ground I get the relay energising and a feed on the G/R wire back to the fuse box. This in turn gets me the feed i'm missing on the G/W wire that feeds the fuel gauge etc....
What I want to know is what relationship does that earth return have with the Ignition unit, as in, is that earth return path only available when the engine is running..?? What I have done on my special build is introduce a secondary relay with a secret switch inline that operates an outboard fuel pump as opposed to the standard in-tank pump.
I've probably answered my own question here you reckon because that sounds logical but if that is an inhibitor to cut the fuel off when say the kill switch is hit how can the pump prime the rail on starting up or is there enough pressure present ..?? Gawd knows, anyone ….??????
