ignition cutting out at speed
« on: July 09, 2018, 10:45:35 PM »
K75 RT   1992
Running east on I-70 in Utah through the desert.  Bike started turning into a bucking horse.  At first I thought I had gotten bad gas, then it became more obvious that the bike was cutting out every 2 seconds.  Cutting out was irregular sometimes then every 2 seconds which made for a good workout on suspension.
Finally made it to a shade tree to consult my mechanic and this list.  Proceeded to clean up all contacts to coils, wiggled around the big connector to computer above battery, removed and inspected ignition switch wires.  After that the bike ran fine all the way to my destination in Denver.
Thought this might help others who see the buzzards circling in their desert crossings.  I thought I was toast in the desert.

Welcome!  Nice job!  The desert can be a pretty scary place to break down.

Welcome. Way to stay frosty when things aren't running proper. Remember the days before cell phone and 4G? We're well spoiled now.

Good job, thanks for sharing.

As our favorite machines get older and accumulate miles it is always a good idea to carry some basic tools and have some knowledge of your motorcycle.

It's the same for us too, When I go skiing, I now take a knee brace, pain killers, a good book in case my ignition cuts out. Used to take Sweet FA.  :dunno
