WTB heat baffles 1991 K100 RS 16v
« on: September 04, 2017, 04:48:36 PM »
I posted this a while back with no luck but am trying again.

Today I did a five hour 420 km ride and the heat from the engine on my left thigh was pretty intense most of the way.  The air temp was 32 C more or less the whole ride.  When I got home I checked my thigh and it is literally burnt, I have blisters and everything.  I am hoping that I can buy the heat baffles all of which are missing and that if I do they will help a little.  I love the bike but not enough to deal with second degree burns on a regular basis!

I need all the parts in the picture if possible

FC as suggested try a Johnny blanket. If it is burning your thigh this should help. I've know Bricks can get hot but never to the point you are experiencing.

OK I will try a Johnny blanket - I did install the OEM tank heat shield stuff but obviously that doe not help with the thighs much.

I apologise for the photo but that is just way too much.

The weird thing is the temp gauge seems fine. If I leave it to idle on the center stand it gets up to 3/4 or more and when I turn the fan on it drops to about halfway  It is a new sensor I installed after buying the bike.  So I do not think the bike is running extra hot or anything, I just need to find a better way to vent the heat. It is just the left side, my right leg is fine.

Sadly I might be forced to dump the very pretty K1100 fairing I am using and go naked or semi naked.

I had a fuel vaporization problem that I have just about cured. I installed a product called Thermal Brane 4 it consists of fire resistant blue foam sandwiched between foil. I installed it using reflective tape. I found the insulation on EBay and it turned out they were local.

Bump

I am going to try fitting a fuel cooler as well as a Johnny blanket to see if that helps but would still be interested in adding any of these heat screens if possible. Does anyone have some?

Those are the two most simple things you can do to cool things down so get going on them before the next hurricane takes out your driveway and you need to spend all your time installing a zipline and capstan winch to get your bike to and from the road.

They should make everything groovy.  :yes
