Title: WTB used 70 mm tank roundel in good shape but with a gold patina
Post by: Christopherguzzi on June 10, 2017, 02:04:28 PM
Hey all, I'm looking for a used 70 mm tank badge that has a bit of a age on it, as in the gold patina they tend to get over time.  One of the roundels on my tank has the laminate peeling back (photo attached).  Not looking to spend much as I will probably replace them all in time, but I'm hoping someone saved their old ones when they replaced with new and would be willing to part with an old oneThanks much.

I think you might be able to remove the laminate with a bit of help from a hair dryer.  Then with some manila file folder material cut and slid under the edges to act as masking, hit the badge with some clear coat.  Should work until you do a complete restore and replace the badges with new.

A sympathetic repair job may be in order if I can't find a used one. Thanks for the tips.

Looking at your photo, it appears to me that the yellow is in the laminate.  It is possible that the badge below is a bright white.

If the patina is really important, you could carefully trim the laminate where it has peeled and just leave the badge as it is.  Gently press a new single edge razor blade against the badge and with a pair of tweezers pull up on the laminate you want to remove.  It should cut where the razor blade is pressing against it.  By pulling up against the blade you won't cut into the paint underneath.
