Title: Part number or where to buy gasket for instrument cluster
Post by: Ozgracee on May 28, 2017, 01:21:52 AM
Whilst trying to fix my speedo, I took off the back cover of my instrument cluster and the gasket/orang is no good (old, cracked, hard).
Can anyone offer help as to where I might get a replacement one?
I've searched quite a bit on google and cannot find anywhere.

The gasket is no longer available from BMW (P/N 62111459232).  You might be able to make one up using watchmaker lathe transmission belting.  Check Ebay item # 281732790200 for an idea of what I'm talking about.

What you need is o-ring cord.  Measure the diameter of the old gasket and get a couple feet of that size cord in a low durometer cord.  I doubt the material is as important as getting the softest material possible.  There shouldn't be any oil up there to damage EPDM.

See Your local bearing supplier, they normally have o ring cord, methinks I used 2 mm dia cord.

Mcmaster.com will have the oring cord (and basically anything else you could imagine). It's amazon.com for engineers.

Or amazon has it.

The OEM gasket is 3 mm and made of extruded EPDM.
