Ladies and gents,
1986 K100RT with 68,000 mile on the clock (just under 109,000 kms) and I notice very slight movement in the wheel when grabbed and torqued side-to-side at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions.
Can you tell me if your wheels are completely firm/ without any hint of movement? The condition is the same with both cold and warm bearings.
I suspect I am looking at a bearing replacement/ rebuild. Want to know if I'm asking for trouble by continuing to ride at this time.
No noise coming from the rear end.
Otherwise, after a lower throttle body leak check (none) and a throttle body synchronisation, she is running better than ever.
Much appreciated!

Have you noticed any FD oil leaking?
-
Should by no play...
-
Are you sure the play is from the final drive?
Mine did this and the play was actually in the swing arm bearings. Took the peg plates off and tightened the pre-load a bit and voila, German perfection restored! :riding:

Thanks, gentlemen, for your replies. No leaks from the FD. My Kawi and Guzzi have zero play. They are lower mileage units. I am pretty darn sure it is not the swing arm. I will double check that.
Would it be fair to think that a bearing with nearing 70,000 miles on it is entitled to some wear? How long have your bikes gone with no noticeable wear/ play in the bearings?
Thanks again.
