Title: Radio holder removal?

Hey there,
I want to get the radio AND IT"S HOLDER out of the left side compartment so as to have more storage. I could get the radio out but the holder would not come out. I did not want to destroy it just in case I ever wanted to put it back. Any suggestions?  :dunno2:

If your K1100 is like my R1100, the left side fairing must be removed and the radio holder is bolted to the gas tank and a cap nut inside the holder.  The electricals as you probably already know can be unplugged, as well as the antenna.  What's going to keep whatever you put in that open hole from falling thru?

You have three small holes where you push a small steel wire or jewelers screwdriver through to free
three hooks on the rear side.  (front, rear and outside, if I remember correct).

[size=78%]The radio holder can be removed without removing the fairing pocket that it is in by releasing the 3 spring clips that hold it into the fairing pocket.  I always used a very small screwdriver or a small allen wrench to insert into the three holes.  If you shine a light into the holes you may be able to see the clips that you are trying to release.  [/size]

Thanks Scott and everyone else.

Radio gone. What an incredible nest of wires (still left)! I rolled them up, zip tied them and shoved them behind the left speaker, for now anwway. At some point I will follow them up the harness and unplug as many as I can.

If the radio had been half way decent, I would have kept it. The most valuable part, in my opinion, was the cigar lighter....All gone now.

I also took the radio volume control off of the handlebar. Now I have some place to mount a GPS.

As an aside, I had already taken the speaker set up off of the top box.

Lots more storage now.
