Title: Coolant leak in
Post by: nrussell on May 05, 2017, 08:21:44 PM
Hello!
Very nice forum. I have read and learned a lot.
Thank you very much in advance.
Today  after 15 minutes way to work, I discovered a coolant leak/drip in my 94' K1100RS. It stops when engine get cold.
Later in home (cold engine), I open the radiator cap and the leak start driping (video (https://youtu.be/HR5bAHe2Tlg)). Puting the cap again and the driping stops.
What would you do?
What is the name/part number of the leaking piece?
I'm posting a video and 2 pictures for your reference.

Best regards,

Your head is different than my 2v head, but that sure looks like a soft or freeze plug (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cru1X9hbZ20).  A very easy repair if you can get a straight shot to put the new one in.  Good luck!

If one is leaking, any others should be replaced, too, even if they are not leaking yet. When the old one is removed, clean out the debris from the block; smooth off the edge of the hole with emery cloth then install the replacement. Flush the coolant system when you are finished then add fresh coolant in the correct proportion with distilled water for your climate.

Thank you very much Jack and Laitch.
I have removed the plug and it has a little hole in there. I'm know going to buy a new one.

That's a cheerful avatar!

Is that oxidation around the rim of the engine block freeze plug opening?

Of course!
I think it was already on the avatar. I'm going to double-check. But here it is my red k11rs.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170506/cebee9b3cf1918e6b935f8603e121204.jpg)
