If you are starting to stamp your bunny slippers on the floor in a snit because a website's search function isn't giving you what you want and deserve, try this technique.
Go to the Google window on your browser and type what you're trying to find:
johnny blanket
Then add a space after the words you want to find and type, for example
site:motobrick.com
It will look like this.
johnny blanket site:motobrick.com
Ready? Click Search. What you will see on your screen will be links to motobrick.com posts with links to several more posts in a list beneath them plus, below each list will be the words More results from www.motobrick.com (http://www.motobrick.com). When you click on that phrase, you will get even more posts to research. After the Motobrick posts will come random posts from other sites.
Now try
strange noise site:motobrick.com
You'll get more posts specifically about strange noises this way. Eventually, the list will have posts that just have the word noise or strange separated and will be from other sites. That's when you'll probably move on. While you're at it, try substituting Feck or Klunk into that search word string. All this hinges on your being able to read well and being willing to change your search words a few times to find what you're after.
This method is one of a number of methods to use.

When you click the Google link, sometimes you get just an unformatted view that shows only the post containing the search term with not much context. To see the context, you have find the 'Go to full version' link at the bottom which takes you to the top of the motobrick.com thread. Even if you add quotes to the Google search term, you get hits that are out of context and not useful.
Some hits are not found on the search engine level but are found using the Search box. For example, search 'pixie'.
When I used the site's search box I got the full view of the entire thread, in which I could then just search for the term on the page using the browser's Find command.
So not to be a contrarian but I'm not sure what the advantage of this is over the site's Search box. If I want to find motobrick hits I just use the Search box. If I want to go outside, I do a web search. Not sure what using a search engine to restrict the search to a site that has a functional search engine brings. Laitch, have you found hits on the search engine level using this technique that aren't found using the site's Search box?

I posted this technique hours before the search function here was modified to perform at a higher level and I have since included text at the beginning of the original post explaining that.
