Title: Black plug between airbox and crank cover -- what is it?
Post by: bdrcooper on April 28, 2017, 03:35:22 PM
Please excuse the newbie question. Can someone tell me what the plug in the picture is? It's on the crank cover side of my '87 K75S, tucked under the side of the airbox. It looks to be partway out, but it is clearly old and the plastic is hardened so that I can't either press it or remove it without destroying it. If I am going to need to replace it, I would like to know what to ask for.

Thanks,
Brian

It's a blind plug not shown in the parts book in that particular position. The hole from what I can remember does not go anywhere. Item 1 and 17 item 17 could be the same size but no longer available. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0573-USA-04-1992-K569-BMW-K_75_RT_0565,0573_&diagId=11_1797
It would be pretty easy to make a substitute plug if it concerns you.
Regards Martin.

Martin,
Brilliant. Thanks for your reply. If it is basically cosmetic, I'll not worry about it. I just wanted to make sure I want going to be blowing oil out the side...

Cheers,
Brian

I think it is for mounting one of the fairings. But I'm not sure.

It is, at least that is where my fairing mounts to
