Title: K1100LT wont start
Post by: old_col on April 28, 2017, 03:05:22 AM
Gday guys
Need some help
My 94 K1100LT has been parked up in the garage for the past 15 years.  I got ill and could not ride. It was running and in perfect condition when I parked it up 20,000 k's.  I bought a new battery and when I fitted it everything lights up radio works, but no gear position showing on dash  and engine will not turn over.  Dead as a DODO.  Could this be the side stand kill switch causing these systems and if so how do i disable.  Getting it ready to sell so someone else can get some enjoyment out of it.

G'day Col,  It probably aint gunna be as easy as stick some fuel in an hit the button. 15 years is a long time. If you don't intend to ride it again my advice would be sell it as is where is. OZ is a big place mate what state are you in? best of luck. Gaz

NSW mate
It was a really nice bike and very low k's, would be a good project for someone with time and energy, unfortunately my health prevents me from giving it the time it deserves.  would like to get it running for the next person though

Mate,  I'm sure others will comment overnight. but my thoughts are sell as is. When they've been parked up for an extended period you can spend many hours on the spanners getting them running again and a few $$$$ if you were in WA I'd come look at buying myself, I'm sure someone in your neck of the woods will be interested

As far as  switches for starter interlock, on an LT:
Side stand switch
Kill switch
EITHER the clutch switch OR Neutral indicator circuit in the inst cluster

Any of those above will keep the starter circuit from energizing as long as all your fuses, relays and such are good.

Was is stored in a rodent free environment? Little critters love wiring.

Does the fuel pump run/prime when you turn on the key.

Check and clean all of the grounds. Check your fuses.
Get yourself some electrical contact cleaner for the ECU multi-pin plug, the 4pin plug at the right rear of the fuel tank(common for no pump conditions).

Check the stickies page, there is a flow chart for things to check with a no start.

+1 on the above.   If just the parking lights work but no headlight it might be the ignition switch

lights and indicators working.  I am going to check all wiring connectors earths etc tomorrow as I am a bit busy today selling solar panels.
stickies page where is that?
I will find it
I kind of suspect it is not a major issue just will take a bit of time.
Really need to let someone else enjoy this low mileage beast rather than let it deteriorate in the vain hope I will get back on one day.

Have a look in the fuel tank the rubber damper and non immersible fuel lines can turn into Vegemite. Water can also corrode the seams on the lower back edge of the tank. Deoxit available from Jaycar is invaluable for sorting out electrical connector and contact problem. We have a few NSW members it might be good to post where you are in NSW in case they are able to help or wish to purchase.
Regards Martin.
