I'm thinking about selling my other bike, and getting another more modern BMW. I really like the look of the k1200s. I want something I can bring the wife on, but still use to get to work through traffic and the weekend spins in the twistys. I hear these are great bikes but some say they are not good at slow speeds and generally heavy. I'm only 5'6 so wondering if it will be tricky.
Any opinions on them?

I drive a 1300 R and my friend a 1200 R
He say's that the throttle respons at low speed is a bit tricky,mine too in second gear but with that much torque it's a wonderful machine. 6th gear at 50 km p/h open up and hang on for the ride[emoji2]

K1300S here.
12/13 S's are great bikes... on the open road. A bit touchy and bulky feeling under 55mph. Stupid fast though when you get some space!

Mate had one a K1200RS I rode it, a good highway bike and good for long sweepers. Not good on tight twisties and in traffic. I'm 5'6" and could not flat foot I was on the balls of my feet. I was wearing standard boots no lifts.See this site it is good for comparisons.

Thanks guys. Hmm ok, well I do a lot of miles through traffic on small roads, lane splitting etc. I also go into the tight twisty roads at the weekend a lot. Since its a big heavy bike and I'm short, might not be the bike for me. But I think Ill go and test ride one anyway

Colly have a look at this link http://cycle-ergo.com/ (http://cycle-ergo.com/) On this site you can select the bike then enter your height and inside leg measurements. Then select options select put feet on ground you can do this with heaps of bikes. As far as the height problem this can be overcome in a number of ways first drop the forks through the trees up to 1/2" (not doable on a K1200RS). Next get a pair of boots with the thickest soles you can find you can gain at least an inch+. I have two pair a motorcycle pair, and pair of breathable Gortex hiking boots. Then go onto Ebay and buy some adjustable shoe lifts ( adjustable by adding and removing wedges) gain another inch plus. Buy the Lifts before the boots and try the lifts in the boots at point of purchase not all boots can accommodate lifts. And lastly have your seat lowered. By doing all of these modifications you can gain four inch plus. You can go from 5' 6" to 5'10" and really impress the birds. :hehehe

Colly I am five six as well (on a good day!)
I have put a low seat on my K100RS and a shorter shock (13.2 inches) and lowered the forks in the triple tree a quarter of an inch or so.
I can now flat foot both feet at the same time, It is still a damn heavy bike but at least I have a good chance of holding it up nowadays!

with stock seat:
790mm for low
820 for normal.
corbin low/normal are similar and available on the corbin website iirc.
