Title: Belly pan repairs
Post by: BrickKollector on April 10, 2017, 05:03:24 AM

Hi all,
I have purchased a belly pan and all mounting hardware for my 4V however there is some damage that needs filling. The item is stamped BMW and also pfeba on the inside. The belly pan is quite flexible and about 6mm thick. Under the paint the composition is very pale yellow and when heated, very soft. Any idea what the material is, and what do you suggest to repair any damage with.
Thanks for your help

Googled Pfeba is the manufacturer. As to the composition most of the bodywork on Bricks was made of compressed fibreglass. What was the belly off year and model.
Regards Martin.

Hi Martin, the belly pan was manufactured in 06/1990 so it can probably be assumed it was destined for the first of the 4V motors of the same year

It's the same material that a lot of car bumpers are made of.  You might want to do some research on repairing them.

What is the damage that needs to be repaired.  I did one of those belly pans and fixed a bunch of scratches and gouges with Bondo,

Thanks for the advice Gryphon, the damage is from a spill but not by me. I have just bought it and paid 30.00 including the mount bracket and all attaching hardware. A bargain for sure however I do need to sort the damage before painting it. I have established that it is made of high pressure moulded polyurethane foam, so now I'm exploring options to repair the damage. 3M have an excellent range of products..

My 1990 16v KRs bellypan was holed when I dropped the bike, scuffed and backed damaged area with glass fibre tissue soaked with epoxy resin then used bondo to level:18 month later no probs.Bellypan is flexible enough to justify flexibility additive if,like me,you use 2K paint.
