Hello and thanks to anyone who can help me with this question. In the shop manual it states the front fender has to be removed on my 89 K100rs abs model in order for the front wheel to be removed. I know the calipers have to taken off, but I'm not sure why the fender has to be removed, unless it's a safety precaution in preventing damage to the brake lines. The fender is a two piece model. Which shop manual is that? When you look at it, what do see that would necessitate that?

Shop manuals are not always right about what has to be removed. The first time I replaced the clutch in my 82 airhead I did exactly what the shop manual said. Afterwards I wondered why I HAD TO REMOVE some of the stuff it told me to.

That reminds me of the farmer working on his tractor in his dooryard when a carload of tourists pulls up. One of the passengers rolls down the window and yells, "Excuse me! How to we get to Ben and Jerry's?"
The farmer walks over to the car and answers, "Head straight down this road 'til you get to a yellow barn, turn right follow that road until it gets to a T-intersection, turn right again and take the left fork"
"Thanks!" says the tourist until ten minutes later when the car shows up in front of the farmer's house. "We asked you how to get to Ben and Jerry's and here we are back here again."
Well, that's a good thing," says the farmer. "Means you can follow instructions. Now, here's how you get to Ben and Jerry's . . . "

i just did this and followed the manual. don't recall if pulling the top part of the fender helped or not, but it was only three small bolts and about 30 seconds to get it off. it would have taken more time stare at it and figure out if i needed to take it off than it did to just take it off.......
in the time it took you to type the question, the fender would be removed....:-)
