What is a good substitute for threebond 1216? - it doesn't seem to be available in the UK

Depends what you are using it for.

For a lot of the Metal/Metal contacts on BMW's I use Permatex anaerobic gasket maker. Works pretty well, and dissolves and stays soft when it squeezes out.

Hi, Duc750,
Dreibond, if still available in the USA from BMW dealers, is quite expensive.  In lieu of Dreibond, I have used Hondabond, Yamabond and Permatex Ultra-gray.  All have worked as intended.  I have used them for the seal between cylinders and block on airhead BMW's and the spots necessary between valve cover and head on various K75's and K1100LT's.  I hope this helps.
