Title: How do I remove original badge?
Post by: zalle on March 24, 2017, 09:00:33 AM
I have a k100 tail with a really good looking badge, I want to put it on my k1100. How do I remove it? I don't want to damage it...

I did three of them when I did my rebuild, and all three were a disaster getting off. Assuming they are the originals, any adhesive underneath will be dried up and solidified. They are backed with a very pliable metal; almost foil like. For the effort and potential damage to your paint, I'd just order new ones. At $12-15 each, it's worth it. Still add a little heat when you take them off though... Not too much, but just enough.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but it'll be the way to go.

I used a heat gun to soften the adhesive on the badge on my 35 lt top box and then it came off pretty easily

I did it to the front - not TOO hot, just enough to soften the old glue a little, then dental floss acting like a 'saw' should go through the soften glue and allow lift you to carefully lift off the badge without deforming the shape
