Title: blinker cancel flakey
Post by: Rcgreaves on March 19, 2017, 09:33:20 PM
So I bought a used right handle bar switch assembly for the starter switch and the blinker cancel mechanizm only activates with a sort of twisting side press to the button... is this serviceable?  I have another unit..

No I haven't sprayed the contacts yet but tomorrow I plan to.

thanks for any advice.

I stripped the right hand assembly down and cleaned the contacts,if you do the same there are little springs and a ball bearing so do it on a clean bench and keep your eyes peeled fo said "bits".All went well, cancel and lights all working well, not too difficult really.

youngbil.  Check and check on springs and ball bearings.  Not yet serviced but having the papa thrill of helping my son restore his ride.  cheers. :riding:   Should be an epic day for riding in Cheeseland, the empire of cheese, the ruler of the cheese roost, Wisconsin.  Better swig some more coffee.

So yesterday my Brick hit the road for the first time in 6 months after a string of challenging maintenance issues.    As for the flakey blinker cancel:

I opted to try my in stock electrical contact cleaner before a Deoxit purchase.. with  one of those handy dandy red straws nozzles.

Firstly we wrapped the headstock with a moving blanket to catch any over spray especially the gauges.  Then we opened the switch assembly.  Without opening up the switches ( and the resulting "sproingy" sound of tiny springs seeking a crack in the floor) I worked each control and sprayed into the openings at all sorts of angles. Reassembled, prettied up the plastic with that Back to Black plastic cleaner that seems to bring color back to any colored plastic, and tested.  Worked perfectly.

Clearly oxidization was the culprit here. Thanks all.
