I just pulled the crusty internal fuel line from inside my 1985 K100RS tank. There was just a 12" line with BMW markings and no fuel filter. The parts fiche shows the use of a filter so I'd like to refit one if appropriate.
I did pick up the NAPA 3032 filter, submersible high pressure line and new FI clamps. I'd like some input on the length of hose to use on either side of the filter - so the filter and the lines can be routed without interfering with the float. The fiche seems to show it placed with equal lengths of hose on either side.
Also, is any sort of hold-down used to keep the filter from rattling about?

There is no internal hold down for the fuel filter, no. What I did to stop it rattling is have it on a short piece of hose - maybe two or three inches that connects to the out pipe in the tank. Then I have a much longer piece - maybe 14 inches or so that goes from the other end of the fuel filter to the fuel pump.
Seems to work fine and it is much easier to put the fuel pump into place when it is attached to a long hose like that.

Yep I have the same

I ended up using the 3" and 14" hose combination and it worked great.

I buy the internal fuel hose by the metre, a metre gives me three changes.
