Hi Gurus,
I'm trying to understand how a custom seat is made, and not getting far with you tube videos as the are mostly about fibreglass cafe seats which is not what I'm after.
I want a nice simple flat seat that will fit to my frame (after it's been modified).
The example seat in the picture which I found on this forum http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,8689.msg67484.html#msg67484 (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,8689.msg67484.html#msg67484) looks like what I need in terms of the base. I think the foam layers and sculpting looks pretty straight forward, then I pay a professional to upholster. In the example pic, how has this seat been upholstered under the aluminium base, and then how has the seat been affixed to the base?
The other thing I'm not sure about is how the seat will sit on the frame. Is the idea for the perimeter of the seat to rest on the frame, or will this rub through the upholstery over time?
Cheers for any advice.
Nods

My advice is to pm klhoskins through the site using his profile on the post to which you linked and ask him how the seat was constructed. Insofar as how it is mounted, the link you supplied has text that advises a plate needs to be welded to the frame for a seat mount.

Cool, will do Laitch. He hasn't been on for a few months but I'll give him a go.

Nods,I fabricated a pan with sides. It worked for me.The sides cover the frame tubes and the seat edge can be well defined. The material cover goes over the sides round the edge and up out of sight, with a large gluing surface.

Ahhh thanks Dude - so the upholster can glue the fabric to the underside of the seat tray. That's another question answered. [emoji106]
