my Brick instrument cluster came to me with a length of foam jammed between the dash instrument component and the inner fairing. I recently disassembled the unit and omitted the foam "shock absorber":
My instrument wobbles all over the place, is the wedged foam a common fix?
Am I better offer dropping $30 :mbird for a pair of OEM rubber insulators?
I could wedge the foam back in, but since I'll be tearing into it again soon I might as well sort this too
So, whats best practice?

Try filling the damper holes with back silicone.

on the K75s they wobble like a drunk standing in a canoe. Comes like that from the factory. I stuffed some foam and rubber bits in strategic spots to tighten it up. Not sure you could call it a design flaw since German engineering is always beyond reproach.

NO!
I shoved some short lengths (2" or so) of 5/16" or 3/8" fuel line between the counterweight and the rubber insulator holders, easy fix if you have it apart.

I took a strip of door black weather stripping and placed it between the dash and console. One side is sticky.

I had the instruments off last night. I added insulation atop the "table" that support the instrument cluster... the plastic inner fairing had a crack from a PO stuffing a piece of foam hose as an " anti wobbulator" worked fine till I meddled with the instrument recently to replace bulbs..Now together it seems more solid even without the the stuff the monkey method.. when the plastic repair on the fairing piece cures I'll re- install the foam insulator too. solved without the $30 irreproachably engineered German isolator.

Gotta wonder about that mounting. After I wrecked my bike back in 05 I had the pod mounted solidly to the triple tree until I found a replacement fairing in 2012. Instruments worked fine, maybe even better since the beating they took saved me from whacking them with my fist to get the needles unstuck. :riding:

so on the metal plate instrument mount a PO had affixed screen door foam insulating tape, I doubled the thickness with another layer and that had a pleasing effect on a test drive WITHOUT stuffed monkey method. Next week on to starter brushes and hopefully my ride will be reliable....in time for cold and snow. Cheers.

The added insulation depth on the mount to isolators is a successful mod...Even without the monkey. Cheers

Check that the mounting bracket is not broken. My speedo etc wobbles due to a crack in one side of the mount.
Will need a TIG weld. Glue and fibre glass (+splint) were not up to it.

thanks for the insite...mine is solid- despite my spouse dumping it over...Do you mean that massive aluminum brick under the instruments?

No. The instrument "Brick" screws onto a plate that is attached (along with the rubbers) to the upper triple clamp.
Tried to fit the same piece from my RS 84 but it was quite different. So if needing replacement be specific and provide a pic

Well I guess Im not certain what "mount" might fail or crach as you suggest....oh you mean the bracket the base sits in..I haven't inspected that but can assume its ok . I had success thicking the damper with window/door insulation strips. Seems to resist compression well too.
Now on to the recalcitrant starter brushes.

When I pull my instrument panel off again (to try to get the speedo working for the third time) I will post a pic. Mine shakes around a lot but I ignore it. Need to know what speed I'm doing. Going to get into trouble sooner or later
Wifey said I can buy myself a welder ... but I might just take it into the shop for a small weld... need a leaking tank fixed.
