Title: Do I Grease the Starter Sprocket? 1985 K100
Post by: k on November 03, 2016, 12:21:23 PM
Swapping the starter on a 1985 K100. Do I grease the splines on the starter sprocket?

Clymer doesn't mention it.

Thanks,

K

No, not required.  It's naturally lubricated by oil cast about within the intermediate housing.

Thank you.

I'm guessing that the substantial o-ring on the starter prevents the engine oil from escaping.

Yep, might be worth putting a smear of oil or grease on the o-ring and housing to keep it sealed and ease future removal.
