Title: New Exhaust Headers. What do I have to change?
Post by: colly on October 17, 2016, 05:53:57 AM
I got some new exhaust headers as I swapped with another motobricker as he wanted my full system. I got some new polished pipes. Before I fit them, do I absolutely need to change the gaskets? I did a quick search and they are not cheap! Do I have to change the bolts too?

Are you sure you looked at the correct part #.
I don't know the last 7 of your vin for 100% accuracy, but they should be #11 62 7 662 083(or 11 62 1 464 061 crosses to the other) and unless you have super atrocious shipping to Ireland they are less then $4 U.S. each. (2.10 inc vat from Motobins)

Do you absolutely change them? It's up to you. If you were refitting the same exhaust that seated them I would say probably not, that they would seal again. Since you are fitting a different set of headers, I'd bet that they wouldn't seal correctly and I would recommend changing them.

You can always just put the exhaust on and try it. It may work, it may not, then you will know--

Re the bolts, replacing them is totally up to you. Not really necessary unless you break one.

Oh fantastic thank you! Not sure what I was looking at on ebay but it must have been wrong. Appreciate the help. Do you know how I can find out the part numbers of the replacement bolts? Thanks!

HERE (https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?product=M&archive=1&series=K589&model=K+100+83+%280501%2C0511%29&market=EUR)   ...choose production month in the last frame, or insert your VIN in the frame "Serial number".

If you are looking for bolts, i've had no problems with this SS set that I purchased on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/331624705709?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/331624705709?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)
