Title: t-boned deer
Post by: Jethroww on October 04, 2016, 10:37:48 AM
Hi all, Last Wednesday Sept 28 on my way to work at 4:30 AM I t-boned a deer. When I stopped sliding and heard the bike stopped sliding
I got up and walked over to the bike and turned it off. Felt a bit of pain thought must be just some bruising. Drove the bike home and and
made appointment to see doctor. After emergency visit found out I had 2 broken ribs and 1 with a hair line crack. My winter project repairing
the bike.

Glad you got off fairly easy.  Almost exactly 11 years ago I hit a deer, or it hit me, the impact is a blank to me.  Saw the deer (2 in the afternoon) then I was sliding down one side of the road and the bike off on the other.  Deer got away.  Got a big chunk of titanium in my shoulder now.  Damage to bike was mostly cosmetic and tupperware.  I'm more watchful for the critters now, but if you're riding you're taking a chance.....

Yikes, Jethroww!!

What speed?  What gear were you wearing?

Fucking deer...

Glad to hear you aren't too messed up.  Our neighbor's son was killed trying to avoid hitting one of those fucking forest rats.  I hate the people who move out to the country, post their land from hunting, and then brag about their deer herds to their friends back in the city.   You have to be looking for them all the time now; they're even running around the village in the daytime.

Hi, I was in 5th 80KMH. I am always looking for any animals on the road or in the ditches to try and prevent this
from happening to me. I was looking ahead about 20 to 30 feet when I just caught sight of the deer 1 foot in front me.
Just as I pulled the front brake bang I hit the deer. I only saw it broad side for a split second  before I hit it.
It was coming from my left side. I was wearing a Simpson helmet, Hein Gericke jacket, Wolf kidney belt, leather
gloves and Alpinestars riding boots. Chaos was it hard finding parts for your bike after your hit? Feeling a bit
better every day. The most difficult thing will be convincing  wife/daughters to keep on riding.
  Thanks

It's going to be harder to overcome the wife daughter thing rather than just hitting the deer.

If there is any good side to this, it's that there seems to be a fair number of K75S fairing parts on eBay right now.

Sorry to see your misfortune, thank god we don't have many deer in Queensland. We just have to contend with Roos, Wombats, Emus, Pythons, ,Crocs and Yowies. Hope you get yourself and the bike back together. I do believe there are more left fairings around than right hand ones.
All the best and a speedy recovery Martin.

Darn forest rats.  Lots of them around these parts.  Glad you made out as well as you did.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank your lucky stars you didn't encounter a moose......Deer down here are bad enough, but you got both up north.

Yikes!

Glad to hear your injuries are not life-threatening and the bike is repairable.

Sounds like you were geared-up with proper riding apparel.

Just heard on the radio about a motorcyclist who was killed near here over the weekend when he ran into a turkey vulture.

I live in southern Ontario with no moose only deer, wolfs etc. Starting to feel a bit better.
I'm glad it was a young doe and not a big buck. Will try and find parts/fix over the winter.
  Thanks

was it hard finding parts for your bike after your hit?

Just need patience.  The hardest part was the front blinker lens,  $80+ new, finally found some on ebay for $30.  IBMWRA, Beemerboneyard.com and this and other forums were a big help.  Actually sold the dented tank, trashed fairing and some other misc bits.  Beemerboneyard had a complete S fairing with horrid yellow rattle can paint job for $200,  went with the cameo paint rather than trying to strip it and give it decent paint.  Nice thing is it's near the end of the riding season and you have all winter to gather parts.
