Hi
MY bike suddenly does not want to start. Sounds exactly like when I forget to retract the side stand. Turn over on the starter, but does not fire. Bike was dropped recently, think somehow the switch on the stand has malfunction.
Where do I start looking?
-
Does the fuel pump run for a couple of seconds when you turn on the ignition?
-
Yes, or let me rather say I assume the wirring noise is the fuel pump.
-
Then your sidestand switch is OK.
-
Dislodge a fuel line connection inside the tank? Pump may run but not enough gas......
-
Okay, went to check again. The fuel pump is not coming on any more.
-
The connector for the sidestand switch you find along the upper frame tube on the RHS.
Disconnect it and short the two contacts at harness side while the ignition is on,
if your fuel pump then starts....the sidestand switch is your problem.
Have a look in this thread (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=8077.0), then you know what to look for.

Thanks, will follow the process .
Assuming it is the switch, how do I tackle repairing it, or is it a replace job?

Usually it's enough to give the small knob on the microswitch a dosh with WD40 or similar, then move
the small metal pin forth and back a number of times to activate the small knob.
Also check that the small metal pin isn't rubbing against some other part and preventing its movement.
