Title: Fuel gauge vs idiot light

Just when is the low-fuel light supposed to come on? Mine comes on when the gauge still reads above 1/4. I've never run out and the thing only takes about three gallons even thirty miles after the light comes on.
Is there any adjustment available for either of these?
