Title: Need to Rivet... Side Cases
Post by: jay1622 on September 20, 2016, 01:03:35 PM: I'm sure it's easy as pie, but it's something I've never done so I figured I'd ask you all... I need to drill out and swap the lock stops on my side cases. The one on the left is new, but is incompatible with my inner side cases. Something called a "pop rivet" should work, yes? I'm guessing that's what these are?

Yes. I'v used both aluminum and stainless pop rivets when replacing loosened or damaged rivets. Use the smallest effective bit to remove them.

The ones that came with the new latches worked great but when using others you have purchased yourself make sure you get the right length, if memory serves you need 3/4" not 1/2" long for them to work

I went with 3mm x 10mm. Very sound words of advice; it truly saved me some cursing and an extra trip to the hardware store.

When I went to disassemble the rivets on my cases, the washer side went against the plastic part and the plunger portion of the rivet was against the metal cleats. Those were the newer versions. Mine cleats are plastic. I went with using the plunger and 1/8 inch rivet washers on the outer part. Worked like a charm!

:2thumbup: Understood, You'll miss out on the superior case hinges though!
