Title: My K100"M" build. Back from the dead.
Post by: Cromwave on September 07, 2016, 09:32:20 AM
So I picked up a 1985 K100 formerly an RS parts bike last week. I'm completely new to these bikes, and moreso completely new to 4 stroke bikes. My goal was to see how difficult it would be to get running, but it ended up being pretty easy/fun. This engine sounds mean.

Now here is where I'm basically starting off...

Here is after cleaning off all the moss and grime, and prepping the fairing and tank for paint.

I went with pure white with a pretty thick clear-coat.

I specialize in vinyl applications so I added some decals I designed on the fly to see how it would come out.

I LOVE the "M" stripes! I was thinking of doing a similar paint scheme on my project but now I'd just be a copy cat... Dangit!  Looks great !

Yeah nice. How about reversing the stripes and calling them "W" stripes. That would be original. :hehehe
From me who put the eagle transfers on my Guzzi facing backwards....All that care but only the clever dicks notice.

Thanks! I do vinyl decals and designs for a living so I threw some material I had around on it and made it work  :yes  I don't mind if you copy it! I'm a BMW fanatic/masochist so I threw some accents in the mix. I now have matte black vinyl knee pad area, to go with the plain matte black tank roundel.

W stripes! haha.

I have seem Black Silver White stripes that i might use on a silver metallic background paint layer, do give it a bit different look with a nod to the BMW Stripes

Here's an update I ended up cutting the rear of the bike down, while at the same time handling my handlebar situation.

My switches were badly cracked and sticking. (I ended up finding out there was an infestation of little black and red bugs, that I couldn't identify)
My front brake master was also seized and scored beyond repair. The rear master was also broken at one of the ends and did not work.

I bought a new "universal" exact diameter front brake master and scavenged some spare Honda switches that I had sitting around.

I also had a Magura choke from an old BMW oilhead I think, sitting around. I assembled everything together on Renthal handlebars.

Here is some pictures of the handlebars. I rewired them entirely to the honda switches. (still can't fix the horn button on these either)

I also had a seat upholstered at a nearby shop, using the seat pan I bent and cut to fit the new rear.

I have a few pictures using my original taillight setup, but I ended up EXPLODING it when I hard shifted during testing. The tail came down and the rear tire shredded the light.

The throttle is from a Suzuki RMZ450
The front brake master is a "Universal"
The rear brake master is NOS from a 90's CBR900RR and was adapted via custom line-to-caliper

I'm now using an LED strip rear tail light that's fastened to the rear under the back of the seat.

I installed the Osidetiger 318i injectors too.

My issues right now are my speedometer doesn't work and I'm trying to source an oil sight-glass. Mine is very foggy.

It's also running a bit rich, even before switching injectors. (I was going to contribute this to it not running for a while, after riding it for 15 minutes the rich smoke went away)
