Title: Temp oil level window fix
Post by: Crapdealerbob on August 25, 2011, 10:02:53 PM
This is the part the service manager, Andy Carroll, from Birmingham BMW, came up with as a temp fix when my oil level window disappeared (see trip report - Las Vegas to Bloomsburg.  I think he got it at a Home Depot.

Fits in where the window goes, just make sure and check the tightness while the bike is on the kickstand - so oil doesn't leak out if it pops off.  I just kept it hand tight, it did come off once (didn't check it after a cool night) but it did get us from Birmingham to Las Vegas.

I did get a replacement window from Phil Marvin, so I have this part off the bike.  But I will keep it in my parts stash on future trips just in case.

On the bike

Love the 'stand clear while in use' warning ;-)

Yep, Oatey is plumbing...still not sure what it's used for though.

It should say, "Sit on bike while in use."

They are used to close off an open pipe temporarily for pressure testing before a valve or fixture is installed. Hence the warning "stand back when in use".
