Which way is up has been a topic discussed here. Attached is Progressive Suspension's written guidance regarding up as it relates to their 465 Series shocks—received today.

Thanks for posting, so bare shaft is up--that's the way i've run my OEM shock too.

Maybe it's just me, but it's the worst shock ever, makes my rear end feel like a pogo stick

I've got a 465. I set it to give me a firm ride over the potholes with no loss of body part identity. It does what I expected. I weigh about 190 lbs. The 412 probably would have been good enough. It's unlikely I'll ever be a suspension connoisseur.

On second thought, maybe you actually meant ping-pong ball. Clarity is needed here although not too much clarity.

Hey there Laitch, good afternoon. I stumbled upon this post researching a new rear shock for my rebuild. I bought the 412 for mine, and believe me... It sucks. If I keep the bike, I'll consider a Wilburs or something with a refinished seat from Sargeant. Until then, rest assured my friend... You are much better off with anything else than the 412.

Maybe I need to experience something other than a 412. I've put like 40k miles on mine and it seems fine

The key to satisfaction, jay, is keeping your expectations as low as possible then lowering them some more if they weren't low enough. :giggles

Having ridden way too many miles with a blown out Works shock that bottomed like a ball pean hammer hitting an anvil on every bump, the 412 is a gift from the heavens.
