Title: PIAA 1100 light trouble
Post by: ckp on August 27, 2016, 05:07:29 PM
Hello,
I have a set of PIAA 1100 lights that came on my bike. They both worked fine. Now my right side light is dim, like it has a poor ground. I transposed the wiring and still the light is dim. I removed the light and saw water inside. Will someone tell me how to disassemble it, so I can clean up the contacts and hopefully get it working properly? I see bulbs on the website, discontinued, so I think it comes apart somehow.

Thank you

The light comes apart. The gold ring unscrews. It is extremely tight. It took two pipe wrenches to unscrew it. Of course it marred the finish, but not beyond reusing it. Unfortunately, after letting it dry out, it was dimmer. So, it came apart again and I totally disassembled it. The wiring is hot glued on the inside of the grommet and the white piece is tape the circuit board sticks to in addition to three screws holding it in place. I reflowed the solder on the positive and negative connections. That didn't help. I hooked 12 volts directly to the circuit board and the light would only work intermittently. During this whole process, one of the LED's fell off the board. If I were a master of circuit boards, I could probably reattach it. Nonetheless, it has only two lights.

I gave up and removed the other light from my bike.

P.S. There are two rubber O-rings to keep the water out.
