Title: very sad day
Post by: Chaos on August 06, 2016, 09:38:25 PM
Last Saturday July 30 Dan Muhs was in a horrible crash with his Ural sidecar.  He had multiple injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital, and his 10 year old son and passenger passed away at the scene.  He had just left the open house at the Ural dealer here in Ohio, where I had met him and waved them off when they left.  This has stuck the Ural community very hard, many of us, including myself, ride with our kids and grandkids.  The couple Dan was riding with witnessed the accident, and they have set up a gofundme page for the funeral and medical costs.  Even if you cannot contribute, take a moment to wish him well, and remember how unforgiving our love of motorcycles can be. https://www.gofundme.com/2hksrqjw

How tragic, so sorry for the loss of the boy, hits too close to home. Our prayers to the family, and for his successful recovery.

As president of a cemetery board, my job for today is to prepare a resting place for another departed person.  Life is short.  Life is precious.  When death is untimely, or involves a young person, it is especially tragic.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

That's the most sobering and saddest story I've heard in a very long time. I don't think there's any doubt that its getting more dangerous out there. Very, very sorry to hear this news.

Very sad, indeed. My condolences to the family...

My friend just t-boned a truck last week and somehow walked away from it. Motivation to buy a full face helmet is what that tells me...

Ride safe...

I am so, so sorry.  That is just heartbreaking. I pray for peace for Dad and that he doesn't bear the guilt of doing what he loves with his beloved family and spending time with his son. It could happen to any of us, anytime, in any thing. I hope that he has a good support system to help him get through this tragedy.

Last Thursday Dan was stable enough to be transported from the hospital in Dayton to his hometown in Illinois.  I couldn't blame him if he never wanted to swing a leg over a motorcycle again but he does not appear to be that kind of man.  He posted this today on the SovietSteeds forum.

"Thank you everyone, you have been so incredible with your kind words and support. I'm on a lot of pain meds so I'm not always coherent, but I do want to say a few thing. When we decided to purchase a Ural I had been looking at them online for some time. When the time came I went to Heindls the day before to take care of the paperwork. The next day Diane,Joey, and I came to pick up the bike, we told Joey we were buying 4 tires. Upon arrival at Heindls showroom Joey kept pointing at different tires and asking are those our tires? After stringing him along for a bit I pointed at our GU and said here they are. After a half second he caught on and started yelling we're getting a Ural, repeatedly. Taking Joey riding in the Ural was a way to make him instantly happy, but as time went on I noticed how many people would look at us and smile. Motorcycles have always brought me joy but this was the first time I had seen the happiness spread to so many people. Joey just loved handing out flyers from our emissary kit. It may take a while to recover, but thanks to Sean and Holly saving my life, I will ride again. Sorry if I got too incoherent, but I did warn you going in."

How can we send support messages to Dan directly? His loss is sublimated in light of the trauma, but will grow as he physically heals. A terrible life-changing tragic loss...............

Glad you ask.  Sean, the fellow who was traveling with Dan,  is accepting checks made out to Daniel Muhs, mailed to his address.  Sean support has been fantastic.  This is from the SovietSteeds thread, scroll down for the link.....

They provide us with resources that we could never achieve on our own. I know and understand many of you are just not computer users. So I'm providing you with this option. You may send a personal check, bank check or cashiers check writen out to Daniel Muhs. Mail it to me at
