That's an awesome price for an ABS k75 and I think the graphite black is a good color. What does he mean by no offers over the phone? If he won't talk to you by voice on the phone beware...that's a scammer alarm. Scammers have SMS only phones numbers...

maybe he means $1600 is as low as he'll go. With a seat repair and new shock or repair it could be a nice ride.

I always view the person who makes a quote over the phone for something about which nothing is actually known as the potential scammer. I think the poster is just being cautious.
About being cautious—if there's one place in the universe you should have all your tail lights and turn signals working, it's Florida—even Pensacola and Panimosity. Impairment seems to be a viable lifestyle choice when it comes to both drivers and vehicles.

Looks like he dropped the asking price from the $1850 that's in the body of the ad to $1600 in the header. With under 90k miles it doesn't qualify as 'high mileage' but not 'low mileage' either.
Have you contacted the seller yet? If he won't talk to you by voice I wouldn't get involved -- I have not had good experience with Craigslist posters who only do email and SMS. A K-Bike seller should be willing to talk -- it's not like they're getting dozens of calls on it daily to the point over being overloaded.

Gotta disagree with you there, Laitch. No talkie, I walkie. Craigslist scammers, especially ones working from outside the US, have SMS-only phone numbers they get on the internet that aren't linked to a real cell number with voice capability. Voice communication is the only way you can know that there is a real US-based person behind the ad. Plus, talking to them will give you an idea of their English skills. If they can't speak English for shit, then the odds are good they're not located in the US where at least a modicum of English is necessary for daily communication.

Laitch -- for $1600 I don't think you're going to get a creampuff and clearly, for that price, there is going to be flaws. It's about the cost-benefit analysis.
I think everyone knows you need taillights, regardless of where you are. This is a $1600 bike that runs. What could be causing the signal failure that would be extremely expensive to fix or is it more likely just a fuse, relay or something cheap? Which fuse regulates the turn signals and what else does it regulate -- it it's a blown fuse what else wouldn't work? That is information I think beemuker could use for risk evaluation.

To clarify -- initiate contact with text or email but at some point you have to talk to the seller or else you can't know whether it's a real person and whether you can trust the person -- which is really best determined by talking to them.

That's understandable, Motorhobo. But the ad didn't specify no phone calls; it stated no phone offers. If he's got a deceptive phone number that's cause enough to avoid him.

I guess I can see the logic in that -- so you don't have to waste your time talking to lowballers who just want to get over. I guess you can determine who is a 'serious buyer' in text and email.
The problem with that for me is that if I consider myself a 'serious buyer', I want to gather as much info as I can before I make an offer which means I want to talk - I haven't ever bought any vehicle without talking to the PO before making an offer.
But to each his own I guess -- if you wouldn't talk to me to give me information I need to make a decision I guess I wouldn't be buying your vehicle.

Nope. I'm saying that if I want a used something and it costs me that much, I'll gather up the money, make transport arrangements then go see it and make an offer.
If I'm selling something for that much, I expect a legitimate buyer to do the same; otherwise, I'd maybe accept an offer under the strictest of time limits, hold the buyer to them and not renegotiate the price on arrival. That's mainly because it's important for me to limit opportunities to become assaultive.

But for me, if I'm looking at a six hour round-trip to look at a bike, I want to make it clear to the seller up front what the maximum amount I'd be willing to pay for an item whose condition corresponds to the description. I say --'If the item is as described, the maximum I will pay is $2100. If it's not as described, I may offer less -- at that point you can accept the lower offer or not, but the maximum I can pay for the item as described is $2100".
If someone won't negotiate a reasonable price with me on the phone but instead expects me to drive six hours just to haggle, then I don't want to buy a bike from that person...simple enough.

That seems eminently reasonable, Motorhobo—just not something I'll go along with because all my prices have been reasonable and if a prospective buyer can't afford them, they can go pound sand. :hehehe

Also reasonable. I've never had to counter-offer a reasonably priced bike. The last 2 K75s I bought I paid what the seller was asking because the asking price was fair.

Progressive rear shocks can be sent in to them and rebuilt. You may have to wait a while though (as I had to)

This owner is legit, he's just following the local practice of not negotiating over the phone. You communicate with him and you'll work something out. Not many buyers for BMW's or K75's in North Florida.

We've had this discussion F14CRAZY -- I remember it well. Not all Progressive shocks are rebuildable. The 412 is not. The 420 is supposed to be, but when I sent mine in to Klaus at EMP, he said parts were no longer available due to ancient model. I have a 465 on the shelf and I'm not sure if it's rebuildable. Progressive CS doesn't really know what they're talking about. Best bet -- contact an aftermarket specialist like Klaus at http://www.epmperf.com/. If you send it in to Progressive, who knows when it will come back? Klaus will at least give you a timeline you can more or less depend on.

I'm a full time college student...I do what I have to do, and do what I can. I purchased a super cheap OEM rear shock while Progressive had my 412. I didn't like how they took a while to do it but it's been fine for almost 30k miles since its rebuild by them.

I still content you're one of the lucky ones who got a free 412 because someone at Progressive CS told you it could be rebuilt when it can't and it's cheaper for them to just send you a new one than to admit someone made a mistake.
I might be wrong about that -- but the web seems in agreement that the 412 isn't rebuildable as such -- maybe they can replace the entire damper but that's not a rebuild -- it's a replacement.
