Title: K100RT Fuel Tank removal
Post by: Vespa no more on July 24, 2016, 01:17:46 AM
You probably ALL know this but in the interests of learning from others' mistakes

The electrical fuel (level) sender wires are a push fit onto the underside of the unit mounted in the tank. I have had the tank up and down and off an on a few times... frequently cursing the stupid design...

until

WTF!

pic included - probably indicative of my surprise.

Note the "patina"

The design works great, but you are due a new rubber sealer on your sending unit.  Five minute fix while you have the tank off.

Thanks for spotting that

Will do.

Did have to replace the o-ring for the fuel sender mounting against the tank... what a saga.

Long story short, buy a box of butyl nitrite orings off the internet. BMW Australia don't have the original part

Regards

Guy

Beemer Boneyard has them.  I finally proactively replaced my fuel pump last year, along with the rubber pump mount, retaining plastic clip thing, the screen underneath the pump and the rubber sending unit seal- all new OEM from Beemer Boneyard.
