Title: Odometer/Trip Meter Issue
Post by: MCRyder on July 22, 2016, 02:20:31 PM
I've looked through most of what I could find in search mode on my problem, nothing really relates.  My odometer and trip meter stopped working during a ride today, was working when I rode its this past Wednesday and today when I took off.  The trip meter will stop at 3/10's of a mile after resetting back to 0, this happened after several resets.  The odomete does the same  thing, reset the trip to 0, the odo stops working when the trip does at 3/10's.  I'm sure it's not electrical, it is probably the gears.  Anyone had this problem and then a (simple?) solution?  The tach and speedo work fine.  Thanks.

You're right about it being the gears.  They're made from compressed applesauce and eventually dissolve.  Not too hard to replace, someone makes replacement gears but I can't find the link right now.  Pricey buggers if I remember right.

Appreciate the link Chaos, thanks.  Whoa, you're correct about pricey buggers!  $85 for four plastic cogs, must be made of unobtanium.

Wow!  It's only a few miles from where I work.

My K75's trip meter has never worked since I've owned it and being one who likes to know how many miles I've put on that tank of fuel and if I should fuel up, I just installed a bicycle trip computer and use it as my trip meter.

Thank you, Chaos! This is most likely what I will need.  Now I just need to figure out which series of instrument I have to order.

Apparently some types of grease actually helped in the conversion of plastic to apple sauce. I obtained a very small amount off the place I bought my gears. Be careful with your selection I am not sure but silicon base might be OK but I would check.
Regards Martin.

The replacement instructions for the new gears discourage the use of any lubricant at all.
