Title: Injector port crud

I stuck some rolled-up paper towel in there to block any of this crud from getting in the cylinder, then used compressed air to blow it out of there, but that crud is stuck to the surface right around the rim of the port. Short of wetting a paper towel with Simple Green, wiping it free and hoping that the crud sticks to the paper towel rather than falling down into the cylinder, is there any other, better way of cleaning up these ports? I don't see how I can prevent at least a little bit of residue from falling down in there.

Block the ports first then use a vacuum cleaner wile you are cleaning up the crud. You can downsize the vacuum cleaner suction hose to a size that can be used to suck up anything that falls in. Use a suitable size hose and adapt it to fit the larger vacuum hose with rolled up rags and tape. you can allow the cleaner to suck a bit of air via the main hose so it does not overheat.

I did try vacuuming it away with one of those small shopvacs but couldn't get enough suction to move the crud. I will try using something to narrow the hose nozzle, plug up the hole, then try gently scraping with a pick while vacuuming. Thanks, Martin.

i use a piece of rubber tubing/vacuum line to block the hole, then whittle the end of a chopstick to make a scrapper blade and a sharp pointy end for knocking the crud loose, then the shop vac works fine.  Paper towel will get sucked out by shop vac.  Once you get the big chunks then it can be cleaned up with solvent-wetted cotton swabs.

Some of those shop vacs suck or should I say don't suck. I managed to procure  the Honorable Minister for Finance & Recreations old Miele Vacuum which was discarded in favour of a bagless one. The Miele really sucks and by changing the position of the hose really blows (filtered air). With it on blow I have used it to check for exhaust leaks by sticking it up a cold exhaust pipe and spaying the joints with soapy water, works well.
