Oh cool! My manual has nothing about them. We're they made to break off in-case of a crash?

From the photos on Ebay I don't think they break off. I also think from Laitches  photo that they might not be compatible with carrying pillion. I have only ever seen one set fitted to a bike and it was that long ago it is hard to remember.

Tim Tyler has the police-style engine protection bars on his bike. I think he rightly observed that they may have been partly designed to protect the bike when the officer did a fast dismount initiating a foot-pursuit.
