Title: Germany-France-Belgium-Whateves Tour
Post by: Euro Spec on July 09, 2016, 03:52:38 PM
Just finished the first 400km of our last Europe tour. Today's leg was Munich, Germany to Strausbourg, France. Spent most of the day on a 89 LT and the other half on a 2016 R1200RT, both of which are my father in laws.  The new bike was confusing as hell.  Stay classy Brickers.

Day two and three were in Strausbourg and Colmar.  Both nice cities with a blend of German and French buildings.  Hit up a national park west of Colmar with some killer roads, reminded me a bit of Bear Mountain in New York.

Things got crazy when France lost the Eurocup soccer finals to Portugal.

After Colmar we headed up north to Saarbrucken and spent the day there. Today we arrived in Trier and checked out the inner city and saw the impressive Porta Negra (Black Gate), built by the Romans two thousand years ago.

Thanks for sharing.

Lovely history in that part of the world.

Is the dog travelling with you on the bike?

Ludwig has a tank bag by Bagster and is perfectly content behind the fairing on the LT.

We left Trier yesterday and toured north along the Mosel and Rein rivers. The Mosel was surrounded by white wine vineyards and the Rein had about 15 castles spaced just a few kilometers apart. Quite the view.

We are now in Illerich at my sister-in-law's place and will drive to Wurzburg and then home today. Should be around seven hours on the bike today...

Trip complete!  Ended up staying later in Illerich so I cannonballed it back across Germany today and just arrived in Weiden.  500km straight shot on the Autobahn, not very exciting, but it shaved a couple hours off of the ride.

Trip details:

Countries seen: 3 (Germany, France, Luxembourg)
Kilometers ridden: 1,935 (1202 miles)
Beers consumed:  :dunno2:
Top speed: 195kmh on the Autobahn ~122mph.
Mechanical failures: 0

Next trip will be in the Seattle area with the RS and/or K1!
