Saw a CL ad for a local R1150 . Went for a test ride today and wow, does that thing move, and it even stops faster! It felt kinda wide especially with that corbin seat and was buzzy until you found that sweet spot at about 4.5k rpm. The 6th gear seemed superflous. Are these same brakes on the more modern K's? I'm coming from a K75s.

Brakes aside—for the moment anyway—the six-speed R1150 is among the R-bikes Chris Harris asserts might experience premature spline wear from a design flaw, depending upon how they're ridden. He says sixth gear shouldn't be used until 85mph because racking action at lower speed acts on the splines. He has an interesting video describing the situation as he sees it.

I have an 02 R1150RT and did not know about the the clutch spline. 6th gear issue. 40,000 miles with no issues. I do push it kind of hard and don't use 6th gear unless I'm on the interstate, (not to often).
Watched the video.
Invaluable information.
Thanks Laitch.
