I will come clean from the beginning and confess that am starting a cafe project with a 1993 k1100. Don't really know if it will be a true cafe, but I'm trying to give it many of the car visual elements. Almost to make it seem like it an extension of an e30 or an e28. Began with double lights from a triumph speed triple. Sourced radiator trim kidneys from a k100 naked. My next step is the instrument cluster. My original cluster is way too big and square. Need something round and smaller . I've been looking at some of the r1100 clusters, but those won't work as the speedo is mechanical. I believe the newer ones from the newer k1200s use a canbus signal or k bus signal to get the speed signal just from looking at the electrical connectors. Is there another speedometer from a late 80s or early 90s bmw motorcycle that would use similar input signals to our cluster?

I believe that there are a few round digital multi-gauges that might suit your needs.
-
R1200C maybe? The speedo is electronic at least. You'll have to do some research though.
-
Thank you... r1200c looks electronically perfectly compatible. Wish it was black and amber lit , but I guess it's a beginning.

Paint it black and replace the backlights with amber globes. Problem solved.
Regards Martin.

I would love to keep it and save me some time with the wiring, however it is very bulky when exposed with no fairing or windshield to hide it. Looks really out of place. If there was a way to lose a few inches of height .. maybe.
