Title: Steering Lock
Post by: motorheadsdiygarage on June 04, 2016, 10:19:17 AM
Can anybody post a photo of the steering lock. Mine seems to be missing a cover.

Just a plastic cover with a hole where you put the key in......it's really not needed.

When I try to lock the barrel it comes out with the key.

Now I know what to fabricate (hmmmmmm....maybe a beer cap will suffice...  )

Is it not that rivet head that's meant to be doing the retention duty?
Not hard to nick the bike if it's just the plastic cap....
Duh,just woke up.....I like the beer cap recycling.

The rivet doesn't hold the barrel in, at least on mine. The lock does function, I must be careful when I unlock and pull the key out as the barrel wants to come out too.

You're correct.I never put mine back after my complete frame refinnishing decades ago.The sand blasting, zinc coating and then the powder coating, made sure I couldn't.My masking efforts were useless,in that area.

I'll make a tool to ease the rivet out. I think its one of those rivets with the splines on the shank. When it gets tapped in the rivet rotates and the splines lock it place.

Mine is a little different (and has obviously never been used). The rivet acts as the sliding cover pivot point.
