Brought a 1987 K75S from a boyhood play mate. Two years ago I endeavored to get my wife and two sons on cycles. Today we ride weekly together only I do all the wrenching and chase behind with a scooter! My wife jokes there is a disturbance in the force- all my other bikes/projects are Hondas. I recall buying a 318i once - barn find- should have trailered it home a fuel hose burst and it burned up in the street! I didn't plan to write that. So many VWs and Porsches later this is my first BMW and what a lovely thing she is... My boys have girl names for their rides....maybe Betty.
So we drove it home yesterday about 100 miles and its in remarkable condition and maintenance for a 102k machine. I'll start studying the stickies on the site. Here's my only current concern: the headlight perhaps the entire fairing vibrates causing street signs it illuminates to seemingly "flash" with every bump. Grasping the fairing it travels up/down quite a bit. Loose fasteners? Worn soft mount? Where shall I start?

Today I'll give it an inspection for loose fasteners /soft mount
There's a rubber boot gone from my starter switch. Can I buy just that somewhere.
How do I assess the condition of the front springs. I read progressives are a good upgrade.

Welcome, Rcgreave. Your question really should have been posed in the Workshop. That's where people look for answers to problems or symptoms similar to what their bikes are experiencing; however, here's a thread (http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?3152-K75S-Headlight-amp-Front-Fairing&s=30016a3f56af70511e196df13a1539fc&p=28005&viewfull=1#post28005) that lines up with your bike's condition. I did a general Google search using the words "K75s headlight shakes." This was in the first hit of the list.

The fairing should not have any vertical travel. There's a couple 10mm bolts (#12 with arrow in the diagram) that probably came loose on the mounting bracket. Hard to visualize how it all fits together from that, but you need to take the side fairings off to get to them. The bolts hold the center top fairing piece to the bracket.

just about any part for the bike can be bought from a bmw dealer. use www.realoem.com for reference
take the springs out of the forks to assess them. may already have aftermarket springs by this point in its life. mine did.

So the two 10mm bolts were seriously loose and readily tightened wo removal. Cheers

Nice corner of the state your living in. Lots of long sweepers with plenty of lateral view.
My weekend early haunt is the hwy 18, 23, 14 78 rectangle around Blue Mounds,
but I like the hwy 18, 61,133,23 rectangle even better when I have time.
Really LOVE the idea of riding with the family as my son turned 18 and has ridden dirtbikes with me. My goal is to have him the the 95 K75C and have my wife and I on the 02 R1150RT, (looking to trade for a K1100RS red).
I feel the K75 is not too much of a bike for a 6'2" kid with dirtbike experience.
Maybe we'll cross paths some day. Ride safe and keep up with the wrenching

What's up with all these Cheeseheads on K-Bikes? (not trying to hijack this thread)
I've been able to ride my airhead (as the end of my IronButt ride) and K-bike around my old stomping ground of Monroe and attend the MOA Rally in St Paul and ride the Great River Road.
So what's the best rally in Wisconsin to plan next year's retirement trip?

Since Saturday we've done 350 clicks on the new to us 75s . More power would be fine but it does exactly what I wish. Delighted. Now in LaCrosse planning to do the famous three state circle or maybe just down the MN IA side we've never done and home via 18 or better try S or N -that ride the cap of the bluff.
Yesterday was epic ,highway 33 to LaCrosse goes by Wildcat Mountain State park. The twisties there are the best I've experienced this Side of Switzerland/France or maybe Colorado. Made my wife park her bike and do it again with me ...fast!
