Saw an ad in the Portland, Oregon Craigslist for an 85' K100RS with 30k miles for only $2,000. Ad said "Great shape....customize, or ride the way it is". Called up and made an appointment to see this find as soon as possible.
Well, it wasn't quite what I had hoped. Bike hasn't been started in 10 years. Gasoline was left in the gas tank and is still there. Tires and battery are 10 years old. No maintenance records whatsoever. The bike was dropped on the right side damaging the fairing and right mirror.
Seller tells me that the bike was originally purchased in Japan by a military officer and shipped back to the US. The title indicated that the bike was last licensed in Hoquiam, Washington, which is on the Pacific coast, and the poor bike looks like it was left outside in that coastal climate for a long time. There was corrosion everywhere including rust on the frame.
Despite all of it's issues, I might have made him an offer if he could have at least fired it up and let me drive it around the cul-de-sac. But no, I drove home with a tear in my eye thinking about what might have been.
