Title: WTB/WTT Low seat conversion for 1991 K100 RS
Post by: Filmcamera on May 18, 2016, 06:58:29 PM
I recently brought my first K bike a 1991 K100RS.

I have quickly discovered that 5' 6" is a little short to manhandle it around and am already getting tired of getting off to push it backwards!

So I am looking to install a low seat on it. Anyone that has one to sell or trade please let me know, I have the original seat and also a Corbin seat to trade.

Thanks

Jonathan

Jonathan you can also make it a bit easier by getting a pair of boots with the thickest souls you can. Then get a pair of lifts if you want more height, it is better to try the lifts in the boots first if you intend to use both. You can gain 2"+ in height by doing both. You can also drop the forks slightly through the triple tree without any adverse effects. I have dropped mine 10mm, but don't go too far or it will effect the handling.
Regards Martin.

I'm interested in this too, I'm lso 5'6 and took my first spin on my brick last night, only my toes are touching the ground haha. I'm changing for a cafe racer seat which hopefully will be better. I'm definitely going to drop the front forks also - how much can you get away with?

Is there any way to drop the rear without an expensive suspension job? I hear it makes its harder to get up on the sidestand, and thats difficult enough as it is  :giggles

There is a shorter rear shock available, and as for the front end, I don't know how much you can go without adversely effecting the handling. However if you lower it you will reduce the lean angle on corners. As I have said I have lowered mine 10mm with no ill effects, maybe somebody has lowered theirs further and will post.
Regards Martin.

I have a low seat Corbin with a passenger backrest in mint shape. Came off a 95 K75.  I don't know if it will fit yours.

When I bought the bike I flew down to North Carolina and rode it back.

I have since gone back to the stock low seat.

Message me if you are interested and I'll send pics.

Clearly there's a lot of choices available.

Comfort, style and protection are your main concerns.

If the seat can't be lower then the ground has to be raised.

Here's a few suggestions

In Australia, we have some footwear favoured by some: thongs (no not arse floss...)... jandles in New Zealand.

Hope this helps

Guy

Surely one of these will solve the problems

I'm going to pick up my '95 K75 with the low seat setup tomorrow. I'm 6 feet tall, so I'd be interested in doing a trade with you. Feel free to shoot me a message.

Great - you can be 5'6" and I will be 6' - problem solved...

I actually have two seats for the bike, one is the original BMW seat which is currently being recovered since it was all cracked etc.  The second is a Corbin that has seen better days but is ok.  The bike ia currrently in customs getting legal for Costa Rica so I can't send you photos just yet but will be able to next week.

Do you have the tank covers etc for the low seat set up?

Either way I am definitely interested.

All the best

Jonathan

If getting "lifted" shoes, make sure you can get it between the foot-peg and the shifter, easily.

So sorry Jonathan. I never received a notification that you had replied to my post! I'm all sorted out now (turned out the dealer misinformed me. It was a standard height after all). Hope you are all taken care of as well.

Best,
Adam

I have already brought and installed a low seat so I am all set thanks.  I do have some of the standard hardware though and the rhs engine cover, though it is pretty ratty.

Do you know if that low seat and hardware will fit an '86 K100RS?  If so, perhaps we can work something out.[/size]

Sorry - I realized it was going to be a hassle needing to give up the lock assembly and don't have a copy of my key. Am trading with someone who has extra keys so I can keep mine. Best of luck MIBrick.
