Title: Won't idle with choke, strange sound accelerating
Post by: vytasas on May 18, 2016, 03:31:11 AM
Hello everybody,

Really glad to become a part of the brick community! Have just bought my first '94 K75 ABS with 70,000 miles on it. The bike is OK for its age, some general wear and tear. However, I noticed that even when it isn't cold outside, it doesn't want to stay on idle and just shuts off when you put choke in normal running position after a few seconds when it's just been started. I changed the spark plugs, the old ones hadn't been changed (look as though in good working condition, however), the wires seemed a bit rusty, and even though now the bike seems to accelerate better, I still get a strange sound when accelerating on first and second gear, it seems that the bike is "struggling" and under stress to receive fuel and accelerate, some kind of clicking sound. Also, need to put the choke all the way or keep the throttle a bit in order for it to stay running on idle, 'cause it dies on choke. What could that be, maybe a fuel filter?
Attaching photos of spark plugs, seem to be good after 70,000 miles.

On the K bikes, the "choke" does nothing more than advance the throttle a little bit.
If you don't have any service history on the bike, then I would change the fuel filter anyway. One less potential issue for problems in the future.

Sveiki! How about posting a photo of your Brick in the Klassic K-bike section?

Air, fuel, spark.

If the plug gaps are within spec and the bodies have no cracks or chips, the plugs are ok; otherwise, replace them.

Remove the air filter to see if it's clogged. If it is, rap it on the workshop floor to remove the big stuff, blow the rest out with compressed air, or just replace it altogether if it seems aged and falling apart. They clean up nicely if they're not too bad off.

Following up Scott_ and his recommendation, if the fuel tank has residue in it, clean it. You'll need to remove the cap assembly to replace the fuel filter anyway. Use a screw driver that fits the screws, be patient removing them, don't tighten them with a dying strain, just snug them.

Do you have a workshop manual or owner's handbook for that thing?

It would also help for you to record the "strange sound" then post it here. I've been thinking it may sound like the distress call of a giraffe and the rumble of a wildebeest stampede.

Insufficient post :dunno2: But, welcome to the asylum.  Fuel, fire, air.  Based upon insufficient info ,  I would say a fuel shortage or an air leak.  Both of these are WAGs.  The plugs look OK.  Good luck

Have you searched here for existing discussions about idle problems?

I think not.  :nono

greetings vytasas...

these moetoebrickers just wanna help... butts they wanna make sure you can help yourself first...

thanks for posting the photos...

this is the next step...

if you want to post about anything electrical or mechanical or technical... you must first use the search button to acquire information (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?action=search)... your post must demonstrate that you used the search button...

when you do the minimum your post will stand on its merits... if you choose to not do the minimum... mystic red will have your post locked and pinned up on the wall of shame... and you will  be sanctioned for a time... plenty enough time to figger out how to demonstrate your newly acquired knowledge in your next post...

Soooo, Tim, I noticed recently you did a search thingy, of motobrick, on google and it yield perhaps more relevant results :dunno (when I followed your link).  What did you do?  The other day, after JO scolded me, I did a search of motobrick and all I got back was my post (about engine protection bars w/a belly pan).  Not all of us are up to speed on technology.  Maybe that technique or googles superior search algorithms would result in greater member satisfaction in this new age of enforcement...The results of the search all lead back here as this is the definitive source of K info.  Incidentally, I am about to post some porn :hehehe..I have acquired an original 1989 K sales brochure!
