Post by: gag1025 on May 08, 2016, 01:09:20 AM
Is the paint on these bikes (mine is a 1992 K75 RT) base coat/clear coat?

Well, bit more than that. There is a base primer coat, followed by multiple color coats, then clear coat. Check the Liebrary for painting tips...........for good outcomes, more than a rattle can is required, and lots of multi-grade hand sanding, whatcha painting?

I don't use spray cans. We have a spray booth equipped with humidity control, heat lamps, and filtration system.

Well with that kind of professional equipment, you know what it takes to do a good point job.

The three coat BMW Glasurit system is bullchit.

I have had damn near perfect(indiscernible to my eye in various lighting situations) results with the Mystic Red (code323) base coat from these guys with the local collision shop's favorite clear over the top.

I am thinking about painting it a non BMW color using the same color we painted my 1953 Chevy Hot Rod Show truck. It is actually a 2005 Toyota color called Indigo pearl blue. Leave the frame, etc black and paint the fenders and tank.

If you are going non BMW what is your question about?  Get what you want and shoot it.

Information. Nothing wrong with asking questions. I thought that this is what blogs are about.

Just wondering if you needed color match info or compatibility info.   Compatibility is good with any modern 2k system.  I would use a good epoxy primer over the BMW paint though, to insure a good bond with the new stuff.
